The Sonatine Rhododendron features funnel-campanulate blooms approximately 2" wide, with gently undulating edges and a striking purplish-red hue fading to white in the throat, accented by vivid yellow-green patterns and maturing to a soft pink. Each truss bears 12 to 15 flowers. Its leaves are linear-elliptic with a mucronate tip and rounded-cuneate base, measuring 4½" to 5⅛" in length, dark green with a thin silver-grey indumentum, and slightly convex. This variety grows densely with a compact, mounding form.
