Izu Persimmon is the earliest maturing among the enhanced Asian persimmons, offering a non-astringent fruit that can be enjoyed both firm and soft. The tree features an elegant, layered structure with glossy medium-green leaves that transform into vibrant orange, amber, and sienna hues in autumn. After leaf drop, bright orange fruits remain, resembling miniature jack o'lanterns. Ideal for regions with short or cool summers where ripening is challenging, Izu ripens up to three weeks before Fuyu. In dry climates, weekly watering from July until harvest is essential. Young trees often develop excess bark tissue at the graft union, which is harmless and typically resolves within two to three years.
